The Board of Directors provides governance, fiduciary oversight, and strategic guidance for Twelfth Step House. Board members serve in accordance with nonprofit governance standards and are responsible for ensuring the organization operates in compliance with licensing requirements, Housing Support regulations, and applicable state and federal laws.
The Board supports the mission by setting policy, approving budgets, and providing oversight related to financial health, risk management, and organizational sustainability. Board members partner with staff leadership to ensure the residence maintains a safe, stable, and well-managed environment that supports recovery and long-term housing stability!
Board service is rooted in accountability, transparency, and respect for the individuals served. Members bring diverse professional backgrounds and lived experience, strengthening decision-making and reinforcing a people-centered approach. The Board remains focused on ethical leadership, continuous improvement, and responsible stewardship of public and private resources.
Through collaboration with staff and community partners, the Board of Directors helps guide Twelfth Step House in fulfilling its responsibilities to residents, funders, and the broader community

Bryan Johnson, LADC, LSW, MSW,
Board Chair
Education & Workforce Development
Bryan brings more than 22 years of experience in addiction studies and human services to her role on the Board of Twelfth Step House. A former Director of Twelfth Step House, Bryan understands the mission and daily realities of recovery housing at both a systems and personal level. Her leadership helped shape the organization’s foundation and commitment to ethical, person-centered recovery support.
Bryan currently serves as Adjunct Faculty in Human Services and Addiction Studies at Minnesota North College, Mesabi Range Campus. Since joining the department in 2018, she has prepared students for meaningful careers in addiction counseling and human services, equipping the next generation of professionals to serve individuals and families across Northeast Minnesota.
Her professional background spans treatment and detox settings, where she has served as a counselor, assessor, director, and clinical supervisor. She has also worked as an embedded Substance Use and Recovery Social Worker within the Child Protection Unit at St. Louis County Health and Human Services. Bryan holds a degree in Addiction Studies from Mesabi Range College, a Bachelor of Social Work from The College of St. Scholastica, and a Master of Social Work from the University of Minnesota Duluth.
Bryan’s longstanding commitment to recovery systems, workforce development, and ethical care continues to strengthen Twelfth Step House as it expands housing stability, recovery support, and community partnerships across the region.

Jami brings exceptional financial leadership, integrity, and heart-centered service to the Board of Twelfth Step House. As Business Manager at Ford of Hibbing, she oversees complex financial operations with precision, accountability, and a deep commitment to ethical business practices. She has earned a reputation for transparency and responsible financial stewardship, ensuring that transactions are handled with fairness, clarity, and respect for all involved.
Jami’s professional strength lies not only in her financial acumen, but in the way she approaches her work, thoughtfully and with a deep sense of responsibility. She understands that behind every balance sheet are people, families, and community outcomes. This perspective makes her an invaluable asset to an organization where fiscal integrity directly supports housing stability, recovery journeys, and long-term sustainability.

Kevin brings entrepreneurial energy, relational leadership, and a deep commitment to community to his service on the Board of Twelfth Step House. A professional who wears many hats, he moves fluidly between business leadership, community engagement, and mentorship. While his schedule is full, at the core of who he is remains a grounded and compassionate individual who believes that people thrive when given opportunity, structure, and genuine support.
Kevin is a natural connector and charismatic leader who builds bridges between individuals, businesses, and organizations. Doug Aysta
Facilities & Infrastructure
Doug brings practical property management expertise and a lived recovery perspective to the Board of Twelfth Step House in Virginia, Minnesota. As owner and president of Aysta Properties, Inc., a local residential rental company, he excels in maintaining safe, accountable housing through long-term planning, upkeep, and tenant management—skills that directly support the organization's mission of providing structured, healing residences.
His personal recovery journey has deepened his understanding of how stable, dignified environments foster responsibility, growth, and purposeful rebuilding. This insight makes him a compassionate advocate for recovery-focused spaces.
On the board, Doug offers grounded judgment, practical oversight, and a firm belief in second chances. He previously served as a director of The Arrowhead Center, Inc., a Virginia-based nonprofit dedicated to community support for dependency and addictive behaviors. He also served as president of the Eveleth Firefighters Relief Association, highlighting his commitment to community service and local first-responder support.
Proud to help an organization serving the Iron Range for over 40 years, Doug works to expand recovery access, enabling individuals to reclaim stability and achieve lasting restoration in his home community.

Tracey Johnston, LADC
Health & Wellness
Tracey is employed by Range Mental Health Center, contracted through St. Louis County working as the LADC for the NorthStarr Families Program, and brings more than 35 years of experience, knowledge, and dedication to the substance use field. From a young age, she recognized that helping others was not simply a career choice, but a purpose that would shape her life and work.
Throughout her career, Tracey has remained committed to supporting individuals and families with compassion, respect, and professionalism. She values building meaningful relationships and believes quality care starts with creating environments where people feel heard, supported, and treated with dignity.
Tracey appreciates working within a culture that prioritizes both client care and employee well-being. She believes the best outcomes happen when teams collaborate, support one another, and maintain a shared commitment to the people they serve. Her experience, authenticity, and dedication continue to make a meaningful impact on both the organization and the individuals she works alongside each day.

Carly Giese
Justice & Reentry
Carly Giese brings nearly a decade of experience in corrections, probation, parole, and recovery-oriented justice practices to her role representing Arrowhead Regional Corrections. Throughout her career, she has remained committed to integrity, evidence-based practices, and person-centered approaches that support accountability, rehabilitation, and long-term stability.
After graduating summa cum laude from the University of Wisconsin-Superior in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies, an emphasis in Criminal Justice, and a minor in Psychology, Carly began her career as a Corrections Officer at the Northeast Regional Corrections Center. She later served as a Probation Officer in Lake County, where she helped launch and develop the Two Harbors Northshore Substance Use Recovery Court. Her leadership helped establish a collaborative model that brought together treatment providers, the court system, and community partners to improve coordination and expand access to recovery supports.
In 2022, Carly joined the Intensive Supervision Program serving youth and families out of the Hibbing Probation Office before transitioning to her current role as a Range-wide Special Supervision Parole Agent in 2023.
In addition to her professional responsibilities, Carly serves on ARC's Evidence-Based Practices Committee and the St. Louis County Child Abduction Response Team. She has also proudly serves in the Minnesota Army National Guard since 2012.
Carly's experience across corrections, recovery, and community supervision brings valuable insight to collaborative efforts that balance accountability, public safety, and opportunities for positive change.
