Twelfth Step House provides safe, stable, substance-free housing for individuals working toward recovery, stability, and a life that is meaningful to them.
We believe housing creates the foundation for what comes next. When people have a safe place to sleep, consistent support, meaningful relationships, and a community where they belong, they have greater opportunity to heal, grow, and build toward the future they want.
Our 16-resident home combines structured living with trauma-informed, people-centered support. We meet people where they are, recognize where they want to go, and walk alongside them as they move forward.
At Twelfth Step House, we recognize that recovery, healing, and stability are not destinations. They are a continuum.
Our HOPE Continuum reflects the interconnected areas that help create the conditions for long-term stability:
Home. Opportunity. Purpose. Empowerment.
Everything begins with a safe and stable place to land.
Residents have a substance-free home where they can rest, establish routines, experience consistency, and become part of a community. Shared expectations, house meetings, individual support, and responsibility for our common spaces help create structure, accountability, and belonging.
Stability creates room for possibility.
We work alongside residents to identify opportunities that support their individual goals, including employment, education, healthcare, behavioral health services, financial wellness, community resources, and stronger daily living skills.
Recovery is about more than what someone is moving away from. It is also about what they are moving toward.
Residents are encouraged to explore the relationships, interests, responsibilities, goals, and experiences that bring meaning to their lives. There is no single definition of success and no single timeline for reaching it.
People are the experts in their own lives.
Our role is not to make decisions for residents or define what their future should look like. We provide information, encouragement, connection, accountability, and opportunities while supporting residents in strengthening confidence, self-advocacy, independence, and personal responsibility.
Together, these elements create the HOPE Pathway, an individualized journey through the HOPE Continuum shaped by each resident's strengths, needs, experiences, and goals.
There is no one pathway forward. There is your pathway forward.
Twelfth Step House is a home, and community life is an important part of what happens here.
Residents participate in house meetings and individual sessions, contribute to shared spaces, develop routines, and practice the everyday responsibilities that come with living alongside others.
Connection matters here. Relationships among residents create opportunities for encouragement, accountability, shared experience, and belonging while allowing each person to participate in community life at their own pace.
The HOPE Pathway extends beyond housing. Depending on an individual's goals and needs, staff may provide support with:
Medical, behavioral health, and wellness appointments
Employment exploration, resumes, and job readiness
Budgeting, saving, financial planning, and healthy money habits
Daily living skills and routines
Community resources and supportive services
Personal goal setting and progress
Healthy relationships and communication
Social and community connection
Confidence, self-advocacy, and independence
We recognize that progress is rarely a straight line. Our role is to remain consistent, provide opportunities and support, and continue walking alongside residents as they determine their next steps.
We believe in being transparent about where we are.
Twelfth Step House operates from a historic home that has served people in this community for generations. It has character, history, and, frankly, some areas that show their age.
We are not the Four Seasons. We are a home in progress.
We are actively investing in our residence, including updating flooring, improving building systems, refreshing living spaces, and addressing years of deferred improvements. Some rooms are newer than others. Some projects are still on our list. We are working intentionally, one improvement at a time, to make the physical environment increasingly reflect the dignity and quality of care we believe every resident deserves.
What residents can expect today is a home that is safe, substance-free, staffed by people who care deeply about their work, and continually getting better.
In many ways, that feels fitting.
This is a house where people are rebuilding, and the house is rebuilding alongside them.
Our location provides access to public transportation, employment opportunities, healthcare, community resources, and other essential services that support greater independence and connection.
Program fees include utilities, high-speed Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, and essential household supplies.
Flexible payment options may be available, and staff work with residents to explore arrangements and available resources that support housing stability and access.
No single organization can meet every need, and we do not try to.
Twelfth Step House is part of a broader network of community partners, service providers, employers, healthcare professionals, recovery supports, and organizations throughout the Iron Range and surrounding region.
Our role is often to help residents navigate that network, make meaningful connections, and reduce the barriers that can make accessing support difficult.
Depending on each person's goals and needs, that network may include connections to:
Primary and behavioral healthcare
Substance use disorder treatment and recovery supports
Employment and workforce development
Education and training opportunities
Transportation
Benefits and financial resources
Legal and justice-system supports
Housing and community-based services
Peer and recovery communities
Food, clothing, and other basic needs
Community organizations, activities, and opportunities for connection
We believe asking for help should not require knowing exactly which door to knock on.
When Twelfth Step House does not provide something directly, we work to help residents identify who does and how to get connected.
The HOPE Pathway does not end at our front door. It connects residents to a community of people, organizations, and opportunities that can continue supporting them long after they leave our home.
At Twelfth Step House, people are not defined by the hardest chapter of their lives.
We believe in creating a place where people can belong while they rebuild, discover their strengths, strengthen their connections, and determine what comes next.
Home. Opportunity. Purpose. Empowerment.
Your home. Your goals. Your pathway forward.
